  • Marine Lance Cpl. Andrew J. Zabierek, 25, of Chelmsford, Mass.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C, attached to I MEF; killed May 21 by hostile action in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Nicholas J. Zangara, 21, of Philadelphia; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany; killed July 24 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy vehicle in Tikrit, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Mark Anthony Zapata, 27, of Edinburg, Texas; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; killed Aug. 15 by hostile fire in Najaf, Iraq.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. Thomas J. Zapp, 20, of Houston; assigned to Combat Service Support Battalion 1, Combat Service Support Group 11, 1st Force Service Support Group, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed Nov. 8 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Army Sgt. 1st Class Mickey E. Zaun, 27, of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; assigned to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died Jan. 28 of injuries sustained in a collision between two armored vehicles in Mosul, Iraq.

  • Army Pfc. Kenneth E. Zeigler II, 22, of Dillsburg, Pa.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.; killed May 12 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle in Baghdad.

  • Army Pfc. Nicholaus E. Zimmer, 20, of Columbus, Ohio; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Friedberg, Germany; killed May 30 when his vehicle came under attack by rocket-propelled grenades in Kufa, Iraq.

  • Marine Cpl. Christopher E. Zimny, 27, of Cook, Ill.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed Jan. 31 by enemy action in Babil province, Iraq.

  • Marine Cpl. Nicholas L. Ziolkowski, 22, of Towson, Md.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed Nov. 14 by enemy action in Fallujah, Iraq.

  • Marine Cpl. Ian T. Zook, 24, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Calif.; killed Oct. 12 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. Robert P. Zurheide Jr., 20, of Tucson, Ariz.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed April 12 by hostile fire in Anbar province, Iraq.
