Army Sgt. Jeffrey C. Walker, 33, of Havre de Grace, Md.; assigned to Company C, 782nd Main Support Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; killed Jan. 8 while on board a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter when it crashed during a Medevac mission in Fallujah, Iraq.
Army 1st Lt. Laura M. Walker, 24, of Texas; assigned to the 864th Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy), 555th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (Provisional), Fort Lewis, Wash.; killed Aug. 18 when an improvised explosive device detonated underneath her Humvee during ground assault convoy operations in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Also killed was Sgt. Robert G. Davis.

Army Pfc. Jeffrey R. Wallace, 20, of Hoopeston, Ill.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 76th Field Artillery, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.; killed May 24 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Baghdad. Also killed were Sgt. Charles A. Drier and Spc. Dustin C. Fisher.
Army Sgt. Donald Ralph Walters, 33, of Salem, Ore.; assigned to the 507th Maintenance Company, Fort Bliss, Texas; captured by Iraqi fighters in an ambush near Nasiriyah, Iraq, and later executed. At the time, the Defense Department said Walters was killed in the ambush. Officials revised that statement on May 27, 2004.

Air Force Maj. William R. Watkins III, 37, of Danville, Va.; assigned to the 333rd Fighter Squadron based at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C.; killed in action when the F-15E he was in went down during a combat mission in Iraq. The incident remains under investigation.

Army Pfc. Marquis A. Whitaker, 20, of Columbus, Ga.; assigned to 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Polk, La.; killed April 27 after falling from a bridge in Scania, Iraq. His vehicle was hit from behind by a civilian truck and left hanging off the side of the bridge. Whitaker attempted to climb out of the vehicle but fell.
Marine Staff Sgt. Aaron Dean White, 27, of Shawnee, Okla.; assigned to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 364, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed in a CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter crash in the Shatt al Hillah Canal in Iraq.
Navy Lt. Nathan D. White, 30, of Mesa, Ariz.; assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 195, based in Atsugi, Japan, and deployed with Carrier Air Wing 5 aboard the carrier Kitty Hawk.; killed when his F/A-18C Hornet was lost over Iraq. The incident remains under investigation.

Army Staff Sgt. Romanes L. Woodard, 30, of Hertford, N.C.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Infantry Regiment, Camp Ederle, Italy; killed April 6 when the CH-47 helicopter in which he was riding crashed in Ghazni, Afghanistan. Fifteen service members were killed or are unaccounted for in the crash.

Woods, 26, of Omaha, Neb.; assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo.; killed July 9 when his Humvee struck an improvised explosive device, causing it to overturn, in Tal Afar, Iraq. Woods was in the area to evacuate another soldier who had been wounded.
Navy Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Julian Woods, 22, of Jacksonville, Fla.; assigned to 3rd Marine Division Detachment, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii; killed Nov. 10 by hostile fire in Fallujah, Iraq.
Army Pfc. Curtis L. Wooten III, 20, of Spanaway, Wash.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany; killed Jan. 4 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle in Balad, Iraq.
Army Spc. James C. Wright, 27, of Morgan, Texas; assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas; killed Sept. 18 during an ambush by small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades in Tikrit, Iraq.
