  • Marine Pfc. Christopher D. Mabry, 19, of Chunky, Miss.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed April 7 by hostile fire in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. Gregory E. MacDonald, 29, of Washington, D.C.; assigned to Bravo Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Frederick, Md.; died when the light armored vehicle he was traveling in rolled over June 25 in Iraq.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. Cesar F. Machado-Olmos, 20, of Spanish Fork, Utah; assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed Sept. 13 in a non-combat related vehicle accident in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. Fred L. Maciel, 20, of Spring, Texas; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii; killed Jan. 26 when the CH-53E helicopter he was in crashed near Rutbah, Iraq. Also killed was Marine Cpl. Stephen P. Johnson.

  • Army Sgt. 1st Class Brian A. Mack, 36, of Phoenix; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash.; killed Jan. 13 when an improvised explosive device hit his military vehicle in Mosul, Iraq.

  • Army Pfc. Vorn J. Mack, 19, of Orangeburg, S.C.; assigned to the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo.; died on Aug. 23 near the Hadithah Dam, west of Ramadi, Iraq. Mack jumped into the Euphrates River to take a swim and did not resurface. A search party found his body downstream on Aug. 24.

  • Navy Seaman Apprentice Robert D. Macrum, 22, of Sugarland, Texas; assigned to the USS Princeton, currently deployed to the Arabian Gulf conducting maritime security operations as part of the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group; lost at sea, he was last seen the evening of Sept. 12 while the ship was underway.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. Blake A. Magaoay, 20, of Pearl City, Hawaii; assigned to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed Nov. 29 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. Joseph B. Maglione, 22, of Lansdale, Pa.; assigned to Bridge Company B, 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th Force Service Support Group, based in Folsom, Pa.; killed by a non-combat weapon discharge at Camp Coyote, Kuwait.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. Marcus Mahdee, 20, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; died May 9 due to wounds sustained in an enemy explosion while conducting combat operations in the vicinity of Karmah, Iraq.

  • Marine Cpl. Jarrod L. Maher, 21, of Imogene, Iowa; assigned to 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; died Nov. 12 as result of a non-hostile gunshot wound at Abu Ghraib, Iraq.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. Sean P. Maher, 19, of Grays Lake, Ill.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii; killed Feb. 2 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. William J. Maher III, 35, Yardley, Pa.; assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Ray Barracks, Germany; killed when he was injured by an improvised explosive device while riding in a convoy on July 28 in Baghdad, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. David P. Mahlenbrock, 20, of Maple Shade, N.J.; assigned to the 65th Engineer Battalion, 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; killed Dec. 3 when an improvised explosive device detonated as he was clearing a route in Kirkuk, Iraq.

  • Army Sgt. Mark A. Maida, 22, of Madison, Wis.; assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Irwin, Calif.; died May 27 in Baghdad of injuries sustained May 26 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Diyarah, Iraq.

  • Marine 1st Lt. Dan T. Malcom Jr., 25, of Brinson, Ga.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed Nov. 10 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Army Staff Sgt. Toby W. Mallet, 26, of Kaplan, La.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany; killed April 9 when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his patrol vehicle in Baghdad.

  • Marine Capt. John W. Maloney, 36, of Chicopee, Mass.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; attached to the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward); killed June 16 when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device while he was conducting combat operations near Ramadi, Iraq. Also killed was Lance Cpl. Erik R. Heldt.

  • Army 1st Lt. Adam Malson, 23, of Rochester Hills, Mich.; assigned to the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, Fort Drum, N.Y.; killed Feb. 19 when an improvised explosive device detonated while he was on patrol in Baghdad.

  • Air Force Master Sgt. Michael Maltz, 42, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; assigned to the 38th Rescue Squadron, Moody Air Force Base, Ga.; killed in a HH-60G Pave Hawk crash on March 23, 2003, in Afghanistan.

  • Army Sgt. 1st Class Curtis Mancini, 43, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; assigned to 486th Civil Affairs Battalion, Army Reserve, Broken Arrow, Okla.; killed when a weapons cache exploded on Jan. 29, 2004, in Afghanistan.

  • Army Chief Warrant Officer Ian D. Manuel, 23, of Florida; was assigned to the 571st Medical Company (Air Ambulance), Fort Carson, Colo.; killed Jan. 8 while on board a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter when it crashed during a Medevac mission in Fallujah, Iraq.

  • Army Staff Sgt. William F. Manuel, 34, of Kinder, La.; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 156th Infantry Regiment, 256th Infantry Brigade, Louisiana Army National Guard, Lake Charles, La.; killed Jan. 10 when an improvised explosive device hit his military vehicle in Baghdad. Also killed was Army Sgt. Robert W. Sweeney III.

  • Army Pfc. Pablo Manzano, 19, of Heber, Calif.; assigned to B Company, 54th Engineer Battalion, V Corps, Bamberg, Germany; died Aug. 25 of a non-combat weapons discharge in Logistical Support Area Dogwood, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Joshua S. Marcum, 33, of Evening Shade, Ark.; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 153rd Infantry Regiment, 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Arkansas Army National Guard, Camden, Ark.; killed Jan. 4 when an improvised explosive devise detonated near his military vehicle in Taji, Iraq. Also killed were Spc. Jimmy D. Buie and Army Spc. Jeremy W. McHalffey.

  • Army Pfc. Lyndon A. Marcus Jr., 21, of Long Beach, Calif.; assigned to the 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Vilseck, Germany; one of four soldiers killed May 3 when their military vehicle left the road and flipped over in a canal in Balad, Iraq.

  • Army Staff Sgt. Paul C. Mardis Jr., 25, of Palmetto, Fla.; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Ky.; died July 15 in Washington, D.C., of injuries sustained May 20 when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device in Mosul, Iraq.

  • Marine Cpl. Douglas Jose Marenco Reyes, 28, of Chino, Calif.; assigned to Light Armored Vehicle-Air Defense Battery, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed when the transport truck in which he was riding rolled over near Samawah, Iraq.

  • Army Pvt. 2 Giovanny Maria, 19, of Queens, New York City; assigned to the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y., killed Nov. 29, 2001, by a non-combat weapons discharge in Uzbekistan.

  • Air Force Master Sgt. Jude C. Mariano, 39, of Vallejo, Calif.; assigned to the 615th Air Mobility Operations Squadron, Travis Air Force Base, Calif.; died Feb. 10 from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Doha, Qatar.

  • Army Sgt. Atanacio Haro Marin, 27, of Baldwin Park, Calif.; assigned to Battery C, 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas; killed by enemy south of Balad, Iraq, June 3.

  • Army Sgt. Javier Marin Jr., 29, of Mission, Texas; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry, 1st Infantry Division, Vilseck, Germany; killed Jan. 24 when his Bradley fighting vehicle overturned in Mohammed Sacran, Iraq. Four other soldiers were also killed.

  • Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 Keith R. Mariotti, 39, of Texas; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; killed June 27 when his AH-64D Apache helicopter crashed near Taji, Iraq. Also killed was Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Steven E. Shepard.

  • Marine Cpl. Gentian Marku, 22, of Warren, Mich.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed Nov. 25 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. James E. Marshall, 19, of Tulsa, Okla.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 21st Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; killed May 5 when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device in Baghdad.

  • Army Sgt. 1st Class John W. Marshall, 50, of Los Angeles; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Ft. Stewart, Ga.; killed when he was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade during an ambush in Baghdad.

  • Navy Hospitalman Robert N. Martens, 20, of Queen Creek, Ariz.; assigned to II Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C., during Operation Iraqi Freedom, killed Sept. 6 when the Humvee he was riding in rolled over in Qaim, Iraq.

  • Army Pfc. Ryan A. Martin, 22, of Mount Vernon, Ohio; assigned to the 216th Engineer Battalion, Ohio Army National Guard, Hamilton, Ohio; killed Aug. 20 when an improvised explosive device exploded near his vehicle near Samarra, Iraq.

  • Army Staff Sgt. Stephen G. Martin, 39, of Rhinelander, Wis.; assigned to the 330th Military Police Detachment, Army Reserve, Sheboygan, Wis.; died July 1 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., from injuries sustained June 24 when a car bomb exploded near his guard post in Mosul, Iraq.

  • Marine Pfc. Francisco A. Martinez Flores, 21, of Los Angeles; assigned to 1st Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.; killed in action while conducting convoy operations near the Euphrates River, Iraq.

  • Army Sgt. Francisco Martinez, 28, of Humacao, Puerto Rico; assigned to B Detachment, 82nd Soldier Support Battalion (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.; killed Nov. 4 when an improvised explosive device exploded next to his convoy in Baghdad.

  • Army Spc. Francisco G. Martinez, 20, of Fort Worth, Texas; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Hovey, Korea; killed March 20 by enemy small-arms fire in Tamin, Iraq.

  • Army Pfc. Jesse J. Martinez, 20, of Tracy, Calif.; assigned to 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash.; killed July 14 when his vehicle rolled over as the driver tried to avoid another vehicle in Talafar, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Joseph L. Martinez, 21, of Las Vegas; assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo.; killed Aug. 27 when his dismounted patrol was engaged by enemy forces using small-arms fire in Tal Afar, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Michael A. Martinez, 29, of Juan Diaz, Puerto Rico; assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Field Artillery, based in Bamberg, Germany; killed Sept. 8 when his military vehicle rolled over in Baqubah, Iraq.

  • Marine Pfc. Oscar A. Martinez, 19, of North Lauderdale, Fla.; assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed Oct. 12 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Victor A. Martinez, 21, of the Bronx, New York City; assigned to the 364th Supply Company, 264th Corps Support Battalion, 1st Corps Support Command, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died from a gunshot wound Dec. 14 south of Baghdad.

  • Army Sgt. Trinidad R. Martinezluis, 22, of Los Angeles; assigned to the 201st Forward Support Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, Vilseck, Germany; killed Nov. 28 when his 5-ton vehicle rolled over and pinned him underwater in Baqubah, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Jacob D. Martir, 21, of Norwich, Conn.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; killed Aug. 18 when his patrol came under attack by small-arms fire in the Sadr City section of Baghdad.

  • Marine Sgt. Michael A. Marzano, 28, of Greenville, Pa.; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve, Phoenix, Ariz.; attached to 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward); killed May 7 in an explosion caused by a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device in a suicidal attack while he was conducting combat operations in Hadithah, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Nicholas C. Mason, 20, of King George, Va.; assigned to 276th Engineer Battalion, Virginia Army National Guard, West Point, Va.; killed Dec. 21 when his base dining facility was attacked in Mosul, Iraq.

  • Army Staff Sgt. Arthur S. Mastrapa, 35, of Apopka, Fla.; assigned to the 351 Military Police Company, 95th Military Police Battalion, 16th Military Police Brigade, Army Reserve, Ocala, Fla.; killed June 16 during a mortar attack when mortar rounds hit his camp in Balad, Iraq.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. Ramon Mateo, 20, of Suffolk, N.Y.; assigned to Headquarters and Service Company, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.; killed Sept. 24 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Army Master Sgt. Edwin A. Matos-Colon, 42, of Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico; assigned to Division Artillery, 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; killed April 6 when the CH-47 helicopter in which he was riding crashed in Ghazni, Afghanistan. Fifteen service members were killed or are unaccounted for in the crash.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. John J. Mattek Jr., 24, of Stevens Point, Wis.; assigned to the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; died June 13 of wounds sustained in an explosion June 8 while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Army Sgt. James C. Matteson, 23, of Celoron, N.Y.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Vilseck, Germany; killed Nov. 12 when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his Bradley Fighting Vehicle in Fallujah, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Clint Richard Matthews, 31, of Bedford, Pa.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, from Schweinfurt, Germany; died March 19 from injuries sustained two days before when his Bradley Fighting Vehicle went over a 60-foot embankment and flipped over in Baji, Iraq.

  • Marine Cpl. Matthew E. Matula, 20, of Spicewood, Texas; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed April 9 by hostile fire in Iraq.

  • Army Sgt. Jamie O. Maugans, 27, of Derby, Kan.; assigned to the 710th Explosive Ordnance Detachment, San Diego, Calif.; killed in an accidental explosion of ordnance on April 15, 2002, in Afghanistan.

  • Marine Staff Sgt. Donald C. May Jr., 31, of Richmond, Va.; assigned to 1st Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.; killed in action while conducting convoy operations near the Euphrates River, Iraq.

  • Army Pfc. Joseph P. Mayek, 20, of Rock Springs, Wyo.; assigned to C Company, 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, Smith Barracks, Germany; killed after being struck by a round that was discharged from Bradley Fighting Vehicle in Iraq.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. Chad B. Maynard, 19, of Montrose, Colo.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1 Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; operating with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, attached to 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward); killed June 15 when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device while he was conducting combat operations near Ramadi, Iraq. Also killed were Lance Cpl. Jonathan R. Flores, Lance Cpl. Dion M. Whitley, Cpl. Jesse Jaime and Cpl. Tyler S. Trovillion.

  • Navy Builder 1st Class Alec Mazur, 35, of Vernon, N.Y.; assigned to Underwater Construction Team One, under operational control of Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command; killed March 9 in a non-combat-related automobile accident in Mombassa, Kenya.

  • Army Pvt. Anthony M. Mazzarella, 22, of Blue Springs, Mo.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 13th Armor Regiment, 1st Armor Division, Fort Riley, Kan.; killed July 5 when the Humvee in which he was riding accidentally rolled over in Taji, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Patrick R. McCaffrey Sr., 34, of Tracy, Calif.; assigned to the 579th Engineer Battalion, Army National Guard, Petaluma, Calif.; killed June 22 when enemy forces ambushed his ground patrol in Balad, Iraq.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. Joseph C. McCarthy, 21, of Concho, Calif.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed Sept. 6 due to enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Army Pfc. Ryan M. McCauley, 20, of Lewisville, Texas; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; killed Sept. 5 when his patrol came under attack by small-arms fire in Baghdad.

  • Marine Pfc. Daniel B. McClenney, 19, of Shelbyville, Tenn.; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed June 24 by hostile fire near Bari Khout, Afghanistan.

  • Marine Corps Capt. Daniel G. McCollum, 29, of Irmo, S.C.; assigned to Marine Aerial Transport Refueler Squadron 352, based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Calif.; killed in a refueling tanker crash, on Jan. 9, 2002 in Pakistan.

  • Army Spc. Daniel James McConnell, 27, of Duluth, Minn.; assigned to the 27th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; killed Nov. 16 in a vehicle accident in Kirkuk, Iraq.

  • Marine Cpl. Brad P. McCormick, 23, of Overton, Tenn.; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve, Nashville, Tenn.; killed Aug. 19 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Army 1st Lt. Erik S. McCrae, 25, of Portland, Ore.; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry, Army National Guard, Cottage Grove, Ore.; killed June 4 when his convoy was attacked by improvised explosive devices and rocket-propelled grenades in Baghdad.

  • Army Spc. Donald R. McCune, 20, of Ypsilanti, Mich.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 161st Infantry Regiment, 81st Brigade Combat Team, Washington Army National Guard, Moses Lake, Wash.; died Aug. 5 in Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries sustained Aug. 4 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his patrol in Balad, Iraq.

  • Air Force Master Sgt. William L. McDaniel II, 29, of Greeneville, Ohio; assigned to the 320th Special Tactics Squadron, stationed at Kadena Air Base, Japan; killed in an MH-47E crash on Feb. 22, 2002, during a training exercise in the Philippines.

  • Army Spc. Dwayne J. McFarlane Jr., 20, of Cass Lake, Minn.; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y. killed Jan. 9 when his dismounted patrol was hit by an improvised explosive device in Baghdad.

  • Army Spc. Dustin K. McGaugh, 20, of Derby, Kan.; assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 17th Field Artillery Brigade, Fort Sill, Okla.; died from a non-hostile gunshot wound on Sept. 30 in Balad, Iraq.

  • Army Sgt. John E. McGee, 36, of Columbus, Ga.; assigned to the 2101st Transportation Company, Alabama Army National Guard, Camden, Ala.; killed May 2 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy vehicle near Diwaniyah, Iraq.

  • Army Staff Sgt. Robert K. McGee, 38, of Martinsville, Va.; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, Fort Lewis, Wash.; died June 30 of non-combat related injuries in Manila, Philippines.

  • Army Pfc. Holly J. McGeogh, 19, of Taylor, Mich.; assigned to Company A, 4th Forward Support Battalion, 4th Infantry Division (Mech), Fort Hood, Texas; killed Jan. 31 when her vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device in Kirkuk, Iraq.

  • Marine Cpl. James L. Moore, 24, of Roseburg, Ore.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii; killed Jan. 26 when the CH-53E helicopter in which he was riding crashed near Rutbah, Iraq. Twenty-nine Marines and one sailor also were killed.

  • Marine Cpl. Nathaniel K. Moore, 22, of Champaign, Ill.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii; killed Jan. 26 when the CH-53E helicopter in which he was riding crashed near Rutbah, Iraq.   • Army Pfc. Stuart W. Moore, 21, of Livingston, Texas; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Armored Division, based in Giessen, Germany; killed Dec. 22 by an improvised explosive device in Baghdad.

  • Army Sgt. Travis A. Moothart, 23, of Brownsville, Ore.; assigned to Company B, 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division (Mech), Fort Riley, Kan.; killed Jan. 27 in an improvised explosive device attack in Khalidiyah, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Jose L. Mora, 26, of Bell Gardens, Calif.; assigned to C Company, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.; killed Oct. 24 in an enemy mortar attack in Samaria, Iraq.

  • Army Sgt. Melvin Y. Mora, 27, of Columbia, Mo.; assigned to the 245th Maintenance Company, Army Reserve, St. Louis, Mo.; killed June 6 when his camp was hit by a mortar attack in Taji, Iraq.

  • Army Pfc. Michelangelo A. Mora, 19, of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Polk, La.; killed May 14 when his vehicle slid off the road and turned over in Najaf, Iraq.

  • Army Sgt. Orlando Morales, 33, of Manati, Puerto Rico; assigned to A Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, N.C.; killed on March 29, 2003, in Afghanistan.

  • Army Master Sgt. Kevin N. Morehead, 33, of Little Rock, Ark.; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Ky.; killed Sept. 12 in Ramadi, Iraq, when his unit executed a raid on enemy forces.

  • Marine Capt. Brent L. Morel, 27, of Martin, Tenn.; assigned to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed April 7 by hostile fire in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Navy Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class David J. Moreno, 26, of Gering, Neb.; assigned to the Naval Medical Center San Diego, 4th Marine Division Detachment; killed by a non-hostile gunshot wound July 17 in Hamishiyah, Iraq.

  • Army Sgt. Gerardo Moreno, 23, of Terrell, Texas; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; killed April 6 by a rocket-propelled grenade when his unit was attacked in Ashula, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Jaime Moreno, 28, of Round Lake Beach, Ill.; assigned to the 20th Engineer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; died Oct. 13 of injuries sustained Oct. 12 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his patrol vehicle in Baghdad. Also killed were Capt. Dennis L. Pintor and Spc. Michael S. Weger.

  • Army Pfc. Luis A. Moreno, 19, of the Bronx, N.Y.; assigned to Battery A, 4th Battalion, 1st Field Artillery, based at Fort Riley, Kan.; died Jan. 29 at the Lakenheath Medical Treatment Facility, United Kingdom, after he was shot on Jan. 23 while he was guarding a gas station in Baghdad.

  • Army Sgt. Carl J. Morgain, 40, of Butler, Pa.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 112th Infantry Regiment, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, Butler, Pa.; died May 22 in Balad, Iraq, of injuries sustained in Kadasia, Iraq, when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee.

  • Marine Corps Sgt. Dwight J. Morgan , 24, of Mendocino Calif.; assigned to Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Calif.; killed in a CH-53E crash on Jan. 20, 2002 in Afghanistan.

  • Army Spc. Dennis B. Morgan, 22, of Valentine, Neb.; assigned to 153rd Engineer Battalion, Army National Guard, Winer, S.D.; killed April 17 when his armored personnel carrier hit an improvised explosive device in Iskandariyah, Iraq.

  • Army Staff Sgt. Richard L. Morgan Jr., 38, of St. Clairsville, Ohio; assigned to the 660th Transportation Company, Army Reserve, Cadiz, Ohio; died Oct. 5 in Latifiyah, Iraq, of injuries sustained Oct. 4 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy vehicle.

  • Army Sgt. Steve Morin Jr. , 34, of Arlington, Texas; assigned to the 111th Engineer Battalion, 36th Infantry Division, Texas Army National Guard, Mineral Wells, Texas; killed Sept. 28 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee west of Umm Qasr, Iraq.

  • Army Staff Sgt. Brian L. Morris, 38, of Centreville, Mich.; assigned to the 360th Transportation Company, 68th Corps Support Battalion, 43rd Area Support Group, Fort Carson, Colo., killed August 21 when his M915A1 tractor pulling a 7,500-gallon tanker accidentally rolled over in Mosul, Iraq.

  • Army Sgt. Eric W. Morris, 31, of Sparks, Nev.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.; killed April 28 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Stryker military vehicle in Tal Afar, Iraq. Also killed were 1st Lt. William A. Edens, Spc. Ricky W. Rockholt Jr. and Pfc. Robert W. Murray Jr.

  • Marine Corps Pfc. Geoffery S. Morris, 19, of Gurnee, Ill.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; died April 4 from hostile fire in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Army Sgt. Kelly S. Morris, 24, of Boise, Idaho; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.; died March 30 in Baghdad of injuries sustained from enemy small-arms fire.

  • Marine Corps Pfc. Rick A. Morris Jr., 20, of Lubbock, Texas; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif.; killed March 18 by mortar fire in Qaim, Iraq.

  • Army Sgt. 1st Class Lawrence E. Morrison, 45, of Yakima, Wash.; a reservist assigned to the U.S. Army Civil and Psychological Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died Sept. 19 in Baghdad of injuries sustained earlier that day when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Taji, Iraq.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. Nicholas B. Morrison, 23, of Carlisle, Pa.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed Aug. 13 b y enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.

  • Army Sgt. Shawna M. Morrison, 26, of Champaign, Ill.; assigned to the 1544th Transportation Company, Illinois Army National Guard, Paris, Ill.; killed Sept. 5 during a mortar attack in Baghdad.

  • Marine Lance Cpl. Marty G. Mortenson, 22, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; attached to 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward); killed April 20 when an improvised explosive device detonated while he was conducting combat operations in Ramadi, Iraq. Also killed was Marine Cpl. Kelly M. Cannan.

  • Army Sgt. Benjamin C. Morton, 24, of Wright, Kan.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.; killed May 22 when his dismounted patrol encountered enemy small-arms fire in Mosul, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Jason L. Moski, 24, of Blackville, S.C.; assigned to the 4th Battalion, 1st Field Artillery, Fort Riley, Kan.; killed Feb. 25 when an improvised explosive device detonated while he was on dismounted patrol in Taji, Iraq. Also killed were Spc. Adam N. Brewer and Pfc. Colby M. Farnan.

  • Army Sgt. Keelan L. Moss, 23, of Houston; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Sill, Okla.; killed Nov. 2 in an attack on a CH-47 Chinook helicopter near Fallujah, Iraq.

  • Marine Cpl. Clifton B. Mounce, 22, of Pontotoc, Miss.; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; attached to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward); killed July 14 when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device while he was conducting combat operations near Trebil, Iraq. Also killed was Marine Cpl. Christopher D. Winchester.

  • Army Staff Sgt. James D. Mowris, 37, of Aurora Mo.; assigned to 805th Military Police Company, Army Reserve, Raleigh, N.C.; killed when a weapons cache exploded Jan. 29, 2004, in Afghanistan.

  • Army Spc. Clifford L. Moxley Jr., 51, of New Castle, Pa.; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 103rd Armor Regiment, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, Berwick, Pa.; died Sept. 25 of non-combat-related injuries in Baghdad.

  • Army Sgt. Cory R. Mracek, 26, of Hay Springs, Neb.; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 319th Field Artillery, Fort Bragg, N.C.; killed Jan. 27 in an improvised explosive device attack near Iskandariyah, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Scott J. Mullen, 22, of Tucson, Ariz.; assigned to the 5th Battalion, 4th Psychological Operations Group, U.S. Army Civil Affairs & Psychological Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died Oct. 14 in Makati City, The Republic of the Philippines, of injuries sustained there from a non-combat related accident on Oct. 13.

  • Army Sgt. 1st Class Pedro A. Munoz, 47, of Aquada, Puerto Rico; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died Jan. 2 in Shindand, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained Jan. 1 when his patrol encountered enemy fire.

  • Army Sgt. 1st Class Marcus V. Muralles, 33, of Shelbyville, Ind.; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.; killed June 28 when an MH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed while ferrying personnel to a battle against militants in eastern Afghanistan.

  • Army Maj. Edward J. Murphy, 36, of Charleston, S.C.; assigned to the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Camp Ederle, Italy; killed April 6 when the CH-47 helicopter in which he was riding crashed in Ghazni, Afghanistan. Fifteen service members were killed or are unaccounted for in the crash.

  • Navy Lt. Michael P. Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y.; assigned to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team 1, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; killed while conducting counter-terrorism operations in Kunar province, Afghanistan. Coalition forces located his remains while conducting a combat search-and-rescue operation July 4 in Kunar province. His whereabouts had been unknown since June 28.

  • Army Spc. Warren A. Murphy, 29, of Marrero, La.; assigned to the 256th Infantry Brigade (Mechanized), Louisiana Army National Guard, Lafayette, La.; killed Jan. 6 with six of his fellow soldiers when an improvised explosive device struck their Bradley fighting vehicle in Baghdad. Also killed were Sgt. 1st Class Kurt J. Comeaux, Sgt. Christopher J. Babin, Spc. Bradley J. Bergeron, Spc. Huey P.L. Fassbender, Spc. Armand L. Frickey and Army Pfc. Kenneth G. Vonronn.

  • Army Sgt. David J. Murray, 23, of Clinton, La.; assigned to the 1088th Engineering Battalion, Louisiana Army National Guard, New Roads, La.; killed June 9 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle in Baghdad.

  • Army Sgt. Rodney A. Murray, 28, of Ayden, N.C.; assigned to the 351st Military Police Company, Army Reserve, Ocala, Fla.; killed May 9 when a Bradley Fighting Vehicle and his military vehicle collided between Baghdad and Scania, Iraq.

  • Army Pfc. Robert W. Murray Jr., 21, of Westfield, Ind.; assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armor Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo.; killed April 28 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Stryker military vehicle in Tal Afar, Iraq. Also killed were 1st Lt. William A. Edens, Sgt. Eric W. Morris and Spc. Ricky W. Rockholt Jr.

  • Marine Pfc. Veashna Muy, 20, of Los Angeles; assigned to Headquarters Company, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed June 23 when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy vehicle in Fallujah, Iraq.

  • Army Spc. Edward L. Myers, 21, of St. Joseph, Mo.; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.; killed July 27 when his unit was conducting patrol operations and an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Samarra, Iraq.
