OKEANA, Ohio — A soldier from western Ohio has died while serving in Iraq, his mother said.
The military had not yet released details July 8 about the death of Anthony Vinnedge, 24, of Okeana. His mother, Deborah Vinnedge, confirmed his death but said it was too soon for her to talk about it.
“It’s just been two days,” she said. “I’m not ready to talk about anything yet.”
Vinnedge, whose rank and unit were unavailable, joined the military months after graduating from Talawanda High School in Oxford in 2001. Friends said he enjoyed the military and re-enlisted after serving an initial four-year term.
“He loved it so much he really wanted to be a part of it again,” said friend and classmate Ashley Muska.
Okeana is about 30 miles northwest of Cincinnati.
