Fort Richardson paratrooper dies

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A third Fort Richardson paratrooper has died from injuries suffered in a rollover accident in Iraq, an Army official said Tuesday.

Spc. Jeremiah J. Johnson died Friday at an Army hospital in Germany, said spokesman Maj. Kirk Gohlke.

Johnson was injured when his vehicle rolled in a dirt canal while conducting a mounted patrol in Baghdad on Dec. 26. Two other specialists, Douglas Tinsley of Chester, S.C., and Joseph Strong of Lebanon, Ind., also died in the accident. Gohlke said no other paratroopers were injured.

All three were assigned to 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.

Johnson, 23, from Vancouver, Wash., was an infantryman who joined the Army in October 2003. He was assigned to Alaska in September 2005.
