Flags at half-staff in honor of Waterford soldier
LANSING, Mich. — Gov. Jennifer Granholm has ordered that U.S. flags across the state be lowered to half-staff Friday in honor of a Michigan soldier who was killed in Iraq.
Army Spc. Andrew K. Waits, 23, of Waterford, died April 13 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations in Baghdad.
He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Ky.
