Sara Gain plays with her daughter, Keita, and dog Bruno.
Sara Gain met Aviation Structural Mechanic 2nd Class Glenn A. Gain in 1996 when Glenn was stationed at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, Calif. Eight weeks later, they eloped to Las Vegas and got married. The couple transferred to Virginia Beach, Va., three years ago, where Sara is a full-time college student and Glenn is assigned to VFA-131, an F/A-18 Hornet strike fighter squadron. Glenn has been in the Navy six years and plans to re-enlist. The couple has one child, a 2-year-old daughter named Keita.

My Dearest Love,

As you are gone, try not to be sad. Your presence to your family and friends is missing, but your being at sea gives comfort to a great many. An Irish blessing goes, “ May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of His hand.” I will wish this for you, as you are always in my prayers and never too far from my thoughts.

Our journey through life together still has far to go. This is just one fork in the road. Our paths will join once again and until that day, know that even though you can not see me, I am in your heart and you are in mine. The days will pass quickly. Feel in your heart, your mind and your spirit the love and support that your family and friends have for you and your comrades during this difficult time. This mission is one of great importance. You fight to protect the freedom for future generations of this great country. Our children and our children’s children will have a better life because of the sacrifices that we, the military families, make now.

You are a man of Scottish descent. Your ancestors fought to free their land from the British, and you, like those before you, are fighting to protect your land, your home, your freedom, your America. Stay strong and brave my sailor, my best friend, my true love, my husband. I wait for your return as I lend you to this great cause.

Your Loving Wife,
Sara
