Tonya Kennedy
Tonya Kennedy and Gunner’s Mate 1st Class (SW) John Carter met online and had been dating only a few months when John got deployment orders to the Arabian Sea aboard the guided missile destroyer Russell. Tonya, who lives in Chehalis, Wash., works for the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs.

Honey,

It is very important for me to express to you how much you really mean to me. I wish I could do this in person while gazing into your eyes. But since we are physically separated by endless miles, I must express it in letter form.

I know it is difficult for you, as it is for me, to be separated for so long. Life seems to be full of trials which test our inner strength and, most importantly, our devotion and love. After all that has happened since the day we met, I believe our love can overcome all adversity. In truth, our love can only grow stronger with each trial upon its existence.

The trials we have encountered since we met that summer evening have been great. I am convinced our love is true because the longer I am away from you, the more I long to be with you again. I cherish the very thought of you, the memories we’ve created together and I live for the day we are no longer separated by the endless miles.

Until that moment, I send to you across the miles, my tender love, my warm embrace and my most passionate kiss. I am, along with everyone here at home, very proud of you and what you do to provide the freedom of this wonderful country.

All My Love,
Tonya
