Valerie and Navy Fireman Jason Rhoads were friends for years before they became romantically involved and got married 18 months ago. Jason enlisted almost exactly three years ago and is now deployed aboard the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt. The couple has a 7-month-old baby, Deakon.
Hey Baby,
I just want to let you and the world know how proud I am of you and of how you and other service members are working day and night, far away from your families and friends, to protect and ensure the freedom and ability to live without fear for all Americans. Our pain and suffering will, in the long run, bring joy and peace to us all.
Deakon, whom you have not seen since the week he was born so many months ago, is growing beautifully. He’s starting to look like his handsome father. He tries to walk, and he likes to mock people and noises. When he grows up and reads about Operation Enduring Freedom in the history books at school, he can say with love and pride, “My Daddy helped in that war.”
I am very proud of you, Jason, and I wish you luck and a safe trip home. I miss you with all my heart and soul. Until you return home to me and our son, always remember we are here thinking of you, and our love and pride for you grows stronger every second.
