Army Sgt. Miguel Delgado and Spec. Sara Avila visit the White House on a trip to Washington, D.C.
Sgt. Miguel Delgado and Spec. Sara Avila are both military police officers at Fort Lewis, Wash. Delgado is with the 51st MP Detachment and Avila with the 170th MP Company. They have been dating for about a year. Avila recently deployed for the war on terrorism.

Sara,

By the time you read this letter we’ll have been together for a year. I can’t believe it’s been that long. One down, many to go. I always knew there was a chance that the Army could distance us, but I didn’t think it would happen. Then it did. In the back of my head, I always thought I would be the one to go. It’s what I trained for. But they called your number instead. From the moment you got in that van to get on the plane, I have missed you. I have never missed anybody like I miss you. Your return can’t come quick enough, baby. I can’t wait for you to get completely settled in our new apartment. I know you’ll love it.

I know it’s been hard for us since you left, but I know we’re going to get through it. We’re meant to be, remember? You don’t know how much I love you, and words can’t describe it. You don’t know how much you mean to me. I know that, one day, all this time we spent apart will be a bad memory, and it will also make us stronger. We know we can handle it. You’re doing a great job over there, baby. Keep it up and come home safe. My heart belongs to you, Sara, I love you and I always will.

Yours forever,
Miguel
