Sarah Stephenson met Army Capt. Jesus Botello at a country-western bar in North Carolina when he asked her to dance. She stepped all over his toes, but he came back for more. Theyve been together ever since. The couple, now married a little more than three years, has no children, but are the proud parents of two cats, Ricky and Lucy. Jesus, a 15-year veteran, deployed in November to Kuwait with the 513th Military Intelligence Brigade, based at Fort Gordon, Ga.
Dear Jesus,
I hope that by the time you see this letter we will have had another opportunity to speak on the phone. I miss the sound of your voice.
I miss the things it is easy to take for granted when we are in the same place at the same time the warmth of your smile, being able to hug you when we pass in the hall, talking to you about your day and having you ask about mine, napping in the middle of the day with the kitties
or doing nothing but doing it together!
Do you have any idea how proud I am of you? My co-workers often ask how I can bear to not know exactly where you are, what youre doing, or when you will be back. Its hard to explain to them how important it is that you be able to concentrate on the task you have at hand rather than count the days until you are home again because you are worried about me.
They have no idea that your heart is with the guys on the front lines and that as much as I look forward to having you fall asleep with me each night, you are right where you need to be. And even though there are some risks associated with that, thats where I need you to be, too. You would be unhappy if you were not part of this war on terrorism.
Thank you for all that you do to make us safe.
All my love,
Sarah
