Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Kennedy McGruder deployed for Operation Enduring Freedom with the Fleet Marine Force, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, out of Camp Lejeune, N.C. McGruder is originally from Atlanta, and his mother, Lucille, still lives there.

Dear Mom,

Thank you for being there for me. Thank you for your prayers and unconditional love that you have given me.

Thank you for giving me life and raising me to be the fine man and sailor that I have become. Because of you, your love and God, I hope that I will continue to be the son and man you want me to be.

I love you eternally.

Your loving son,
Kennedy
