Army Master Sgt. Sandra J.B. Rosiere of Task Force 202 Military Intelligence writes a letter to her children in Gilroy, Calif., from the U.S. operating base at Kandahar airport, Afghanistan, Jan. 1. (Rob Curtis, Times staff)
Master Sgt. Sandra J.B. Rosiere, assigned to the 202nd Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Gordon, Ga., writes from Kandahar, Afghanistan, to her family back home.

Dear Ashley, Brandon, Nezzie and Dad,

I love you very much! I am proud to be here in Afghanistan doing great things in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. I am very proud to be an American, serving in the United States Army, fighting terrorism. This is exactly why I joined. I love what I do and thank you for your sacrifices. I promise to be home as soon as I can.

Be good for Mama and Papa and remember to give each other a hug and kiss each night for me. Do good in school and remember to get your homework done. Enjoy your time with Mama and Papa and the rest of the family. We will all be back in Georgia soon with Sasha, Sassy and Star. I think of you all the time and I love that you are my family.

Love, squishes and kisses,
Mom. XOXOXOXO
