Sgt. Steve B. Austin, assigned to the 202nd Military Intelligence Battalion out of Fort Gordon, Ga., recently deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan. He writes to his wife and three daughters in Denver.

Dear Jennifer, Madison, Hailey and Erin,

Every day, I think about how lucky I am to have such a great family. I love you all, and miss you terribly. I am thankful, however, that I have the privilege and honor to serve my country in the name of security and freedom. We are fighting the good fight so you can be safe.

Madison, you are a wonderful sister to Hailey and Erin. Be good and help your mom. Hailey, you are such a sweet girl. I love you. Erin, I miss the opportunity to see you grow up. I hope you remember me when I return. Jennifer, you are the light of my life. I have no worries about the girls because you are such a great mother. I love and miss you very much. I hope we win this thing soon so we can be together as a family again.

Love,
Steve
